Avalon has a hospital called the Avalon Municipal Hospital. It is operated by Avalon Medical Development Corporation. The hospital is not equipped to deliver babies. If any  expected mothers are within 2 weeks of expected delivery date, they are highly encouraged to get off Santa Catalina Island to the mainland Southern California to await delivery. If they don't, they will lifeflighted to a hospital in Long Beach to deliver during labor. That costs about $8,000. So, the residents of Santa Catalina Island try not to get too sick or too pregnant.
